Lifeboat Inn

The Lifeboat Inn

An oasis of calm along the often-bustling North Norfolk coast, The Lifeboat Inn at Thornham has been a place of shelter for more than 500 years. This historic inn once offered refuge from the rough, stormy sea just a short distance away, but today it’s more of a homely haven, a place ‘where wellies, walking-boots and the well-heeled sit comfortably side by side’.

In summer, an outside terrace and a sheltered, courtyard beer garden are perfect for al fresco get-togethers, while in winter, there’s a choice of cosy gathering places… an oak-beamed bar, comfortable lounge with a vast open fire, relaxed dining room or a glass-roofed conservatory where a 200-year-old vine still fruits and flowers.

The Lifeboat Inn hotel has 13 en-suite bedrooms which are a delight after a day spent exploring the area. You’ll be lulled to sleep in no time – stylish furniture contrasts with neutral colours that reflect North Norfolk’s landscape, and most bedrooms overlook the sea, salt marshes and the famous Coal Barn while others offer quaint village or countryside views. In-keeping with The Lifeboat Inn's rich history, each hotel room is named after the crew of the Licensed Victualler’s III, the last pulling lifeboat at the Hunstanton lifeboat station, photos of which can be found on the ground floor.
