Pubs in Southwold

There’s no escaping the influence of Adnams in Southwold – and why would you want to? – the business has given Southwold some of the best pubs and brews around!

Just a few steps from the seafront The Lord Nelson Inn is one of the town’s must-do destinations. Famed for its friendly staff, delicious food and dogs-welcome attitude, ‘the Nellie’ was built on the traditional belief that a pub should be a haven; somewhere warm, welcoming and wholesome. It’s a concept that continues to this day – walk through the door and your only concern is what to order (the fish in Broadside batter is always a winner in our book!).

One of the oldest pubs in Southwold and occupying an enviable location on South Green, The Red Lion serves traditional, wholesome fare and has regular live music entertainment.

Possibly Southwold’s most photographed pub, The Sole Bay Inn is on East Green, beneath the iconic lighthouse and conveniently close to the beach. Offering a relaxed environment in which to enjoy good food, a pint fresh from the brewery or a glass of wine from the Adnams range.

Overlooking (and occasionally in!) the River Blyth, The Harbour Inn on Southwold’s Blackshore is a pub and restaurant with a fine reputation for hearty meals and well-kept beers. Steeped in history and full of charm, there are two cosy bars (one of them child-friendly) plus a large dining room and loads of outdoor space to the rear.

An atmospheric escape from the bustle of the busy town centre, The Sail Loft sits behind the sand dunes on Ferry Road. Perfect for families, welcoming to dog-walkers and fashionably informal, the friendly vibe here complements the soulful, artisan menu on offer. Seasonal and themed events are held year-round, and opening times are extended during the summer – check the website for details.
