Located in beautiful countryside on the River Blackwater, Tollesbury Marina is sheltered from the winds and within one of the driest areas of the country, so it really lives up to the claim that it offers ‘a safe haven for the weary sailor’. It’s a family-friendly place, too, with facilities including a tennis court, heated swimming pool, toilets, showers, washing machines, chandlery, brokerage
and a welcoming bar and restaurant. There are walks around a nature reserve just a few minutes away, and Tollesbury village is close by should you need to restock your galley; a café and sailing club offer refreshments en route when they’re open. Extensive workshops and professional, qualified staff offer a variety of repairs and maintenance. Next to the marina office is Tollesbury's saltwater pool, while the waters of Woodrolfe Creek appear popular with ‘wild’ swimmers – watch out for them when you’re navigating to or from the entrance. Your approach from the Mersea Quarters is reasonably well marked and outlined in local sailing guides; there a tide gauge at the entrance to the creek marking the height of tide over the marina sill – do not enter unless you have enough water to clear this. On average a boat with a draft of 3ft can enter Tollesbury Marina just under 2 hours before HW and 1 hour after HW. Early or late arrivals can make use of the waiting buoys just outside Woodrolfe Creek marked ‘Tollesbury Marina’.
